We provide a safe place for anyone touched by any form of Cancer to talk. We are a peer group of men and women who are on a cancer journey. They may be newly diagnosed, in treatment or in remission.
Who is invited?
Anyone who is touched by cancer. Partners and carers are all welcome
Benefits
All cancer journeys are different, all cancers are different but the constant is the roller coaster of emotions and fears that patients go through. That is why it is so important to chat with others who have been on the path to discuss and hopefully get answers. Peer groups can provide that extra level of support from lived experience that isn't available from partners and friends.
My Experience
Everyone's journey, like their cancer, is different. It's not always easy to talk to partners or family. Friends may also struggle to hold a conversation with you. The power of talking to others 'in the same boat' is so important! That is the power of Oswestry Cancer Buddies.

Oswestry Cancer Buddies founder Linda Lade
Why did I start this group?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer during Covid. It was a bolt out of the blue like for most people. After being told that I did not hear anything the Consultant was telling me!
I looked around for a peer support group and found the nearest breast cancer group was about 35 miles away! What I did find was there was always a lot of chatting and exchanging of information in the waiting room with fellow sufferers going through treatment at the Lingen Davies treatment centre at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Some time later and after being given the all clear, recovering and trying to get back to my old self, I felt the need to try and start a peer support group in my part of North Shropshire for both men and women and for any of the myriad types of cancer. It is that that makes this support group so special and different!
